Dog Behavior and Emotions

Are you feeling frustrated with your dog’s behavior? Is he out of control in certain situations? Does he bark excessively at other dogs or people? Does he pull you so hard that you have a hard time walking him? Is his excitement over the top when you come home or have company? You will learn how to help him control his behaviors by discovering that his behavior is driven by an underlying emotion. You will learn how you can help him change his behaviors by changing his emotions.

Bringing Home a New Dog:

the Importance of Decompression

Adopting a new dog? Whether adopting from a shelter, rescue, or foster, many dogs need time to decompress and adjust to a new home. Behavioral assessments (ex: good with other dogs, kids, etc.) provide a baseline, but don’t always translate immediately to a new home. Similarly, decompression rules found online rarely reflect the actual, individual needs of each adopted dog. Let’s discuss making the transition positive, including proper introductions to resident pets and children. Questions are welcome!

Dog Reactivity & How to Handle It

Dog reactivity is an exaggerated response to triggers, such as other dogs, people, or loud noises, and is driven by feelings of fear, anxiety, or frustration. It often manifests as excessive barking, lunging, growling, or snapping. Once you understand why your dog reacts this way, you can help him cope. Bring your questions.
